The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand created more tension between the powers. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia ultimately resulting in the beginning of WWI. The Triple Alliance (Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary also called "Central Powers") formed to isolate France but the alliance later expanded and opened for other countries to join. Germany declaring war on France and forming an alliance with the Ottoman Empire. Russia pulled out of the war because of the Bolshevik Revolution. Ending with the signing of the armistice agreements. |
World War II 1939-1945
Involving countries all over the world and introducing new weapons. Eventually turned into the Allies (France, Poland, U.K, Soviet Union, U.S, United Nations,) against the Axis (Germany, Italy, and Japan). WWII started when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Shortly after Britain and France declared on Germany. Along with this invasion, there were other pre-war events that lead up to WWII. U.S wanted to stay neutral but later joined WWII after the bombing in Pearl Harbor by Japan. The D-day invasion on the coast of Normandy forced Germany to surrender after Hitler's death. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the U.S, Japan surrendered. The war resulted in millions of deaths. Treaty of Versailles - The United States, England, Italy, and France were the nations to sign this. The treaty's terns were: Germany should accept the blame for starting World War I, Germany had to pay reparations for damages of other countries. |
